My Son Is A Blessing

My son is a blessing. I didn't know it existed. He has changed us and brought more joy into our lives.

My name is Brother Aderson and this is my story.

I did not know the joy of having a child. When my friends told me the stories of their sons, I could not relate to their joy or happiness. I would say to them, "I don't know how you feel because I don't have a child”.

I was 40 when I got married. I could not settle down before because the enemy did not want me to have a family. But God, in His mercy, gave me a beautiful godly wife and a happy son.

Before our marriage I used to dream of my son—a little baby with dimples, smiling at me as if to say, "Daddy, I am ready to come. What are you waiting for?”

When my son was born, something changed in me—I began to pay more attention to the suffering of children. I became more sensitive to the concerns of parents for their children. This is what a son does to you, it breaks down the walls of coldness in your heart and allows you to become more human—more compassionate towards others.

The first time I looked at my son, I remember asking myself, "Is this little boy mine?” He was not beautiful when he was born. The doctors said he almost died of asphyxia in the womb. My wife told me that when the doctor first handed him to her, he said, "Hold your old son", and indeed he looked old—an old baby.

As the days went by his appearance started to change. The colour of his skin changed—everything in him changed for the better. He became beautiful and started to look like his mother, (unfortunately for me...).

He is so lovely—intelligent—a gift from God. He is only 3 years old now, but I consider him a friend.

You see, he is not only a blessing to my wife and me, he is also a blessing to my in-laws. Whenever he goes to their house, he brings them joy. They always wait to receive him and allow him to mess up their house, (and he does it very well).

Now I understand what my friends told me before. I no longer live for myself, I live to see him happy and to meet his needs. In all your decisions friends, choose life and God will take care of you.
