Hello family, upon doing the st. Francis Novena for more vocations to our Franciscan Oblates of Mt. Carmel order, the Lord wanted me to do a teaching about it, especially for our new subscribers. St. Francis and the mention of a religious order may be very new to you, although you’re called, you don’t know what it looks like.
You may also be a Heartdweller who has been with us for a long time, but now the Lord is calling you into something deeper, and you need clarification to then make that decision. So, I first wanted to start with helping you understand what a vocation is and how to know your vocation. As a former protestant I had never heard of this word, never heard of St. Francis or the term religious order. I knew what nuns looked like, and that was about it.
But a vocation simply is a “calling” as Webster dictionary would say, a summons or strong inclination to a particular state or course of action, especially a divine call to the religious life or as Google would say more simply: A "Calling" derived from a Latin word (to call), it implies an inner urge or divine summons toward a specific career, ministry, or way of life.
When many Christians first come to the Lord, that is the first thing they are taught to pursue, or many times the first thing they desire to pursue. Okay, I have given my life to Jesus. Now, what is next? However, pursuing your calling is not bad, but your first priority is to pursue intimacy with Jesus. When a soul pursues intimacy with Jesus, everything else will follow. When you walk with Jesus, He will lead you right into your destiny. However, when you decide you want to do something for God, we always tend to run ahead of Him, and we get in trouble. Once, during the beginning of my walk, I remember leaving a young adult church event, and it seemed everyone was confident of their calling, or people would ask me what it is I was called to do, and I didn’t know. I began to pursue finding out passionately because I was good at many things, and it was confusing. I had the same problem in the world; I was the jack of all trades and master of none, as my dad would say.
I remember one time during my lunch break at my job, crying out to God literally in my cry begging him to please tell me what I was called to do, and I heard so Clearly Him finally respond to me and He said, “If you don’t know My ways and they are not embedded in your heart how else are you going to walk in your calling”? I thought, "Wow, profound and so true.” I was in a hurry to know my vocation, but I didn't know the Lord's ways, nor had my foundation in Him been built deeply yet. On that day, I decided to let go and pursue His heart, and that is how He led me to the Still Small Voice channel with Mother Clare, and I became a heart dweller, and we are here today.
I am telling a bit of my back story on how I found my vocation, before I get into helping you understand how you can find yours. So, in the world, I was even a planner, had my own pageant business, and was a fashion designer. I could also do choreography, hip hop dance and theater acting. I was a bit all over the place, but very passionate and determined when I wanted to do something, I did it. Coming to the Lord, He immediately began to teach me how to pray. I would have many dreams by the Holy Spirit. I began to understand that I had a prophetic gift. I also loved to worship, and I was a part of a megachurch choir, and learned so much there. I even thought, ‘okay, this is what I'm called to do be a worship leader’. Well, that was a desire in my heart. Because in the world, I sang too. When I was younger, I was even in an all-girls singing group. I thought, ‘okay, I could sing for Jesus.’ I started noticing people were so touched with my prayers and would cry as I joined the altar team at my church. People would tell me I had the gift of prayer. I also had a burning desire to share the gospel all the time, especially after Jesus began to teach us on the Still Small voice channel with Mother Clare. When I lost my secular job, He told me I was working for Him now and had me evangelize outside my apartment for 3 hours a day. I did for about 2 months until the Lord had moved me, and a church was established in that area very shortly after my departure. So, I would hear people tell me ‘oh, wow you have the gift of evangelism. You're an evangelist.’
There were so many titles I was given when people looked at my gifts. I began to pursue and even idolize the titles, thinking my identity was found in my gifts. Again, it wasn’t until the Lord really expounded on the gospel through Mother Clare’s teachings that I really understood what it meant to be truly a Christian and a bride of Christ. He really purified our motives and showed us what really mattered to Him. A soul who dwells in his heart, walks in brotherly love and desires his will above all else. I began to pray that ‘Lord, I want Your will above all else. Let Your will be my food and help me to finish the work, in which the Father sent me here for.’
This was from the passage in John 4:34 When Jesus met the woman at the well and the disciples left to go and get him something to eat. He was so tried when they left, but He looked so strengthened after speaking to the woman. When they arrived, the disciples asked: “Does someone buy him some food to eat?” But He said, “No, My food is to do the will of him who sent me and accomplish his work.” I remember reading that and My heart burned.
And I thought, if that was Jesus’ food, then I want to partake of that, too. “May my food, Lord, also be to do the will of Him who sent me.”
When I prayed for that, things began to get clear. One by one, I began to see Gods providence, which is godly actions taking your life, making a way for you. That’s what providence is.
So, once I began to share my love of the Blessed Mother on my social media, my church told me I had to choose whom I was to be submitted under, them or the teaching from Still Small voice. And I knew this was Jesus’s providence making a way for me to come out and sit at his feet. So, I stepped down from the leadership, not sure what was next. Then just two days later, Mother Clare reached out to me, asking if I want to be a priest. I didn't even know what that meant or how to do it. But Jesus had taught us to do communion daily and I was doing it daily now for 2 years, and I knew it was the Lord’s will. I said yes because I had been asking again for the Lord to make his will clear to me. Providence.
I was ordained with 11 others as we all jumped into this not knowing much but just wanting to be obedient to Jesus. Then we’ve learned along the way. Then almost a year later, Jesus would then ask me to leave my family with the possibility of losing my engagement of being married to my fiancé to follow him to the mountain refuge Mother Clare was building. He began to give me rhema on dressing more simply, more austere, not much make and very modest for sure. He began having me give many of my world clothes away to the poor. Then went further by simplifying what I have, to just a few dresses, shirts, pants, and two pairs of shoes. He had me stop going out to family gatherings, weddings, and events to stay home. Just living a life of prayer. I had no idea what he was doing. It was definitely frustrating and sometimes a depressing time for me.
So, once I found out it was the Lord will, I left everything and I lost everything in the process in following Jesus. It was there that I found out my true vocation. After watching the St. Francis movie, Brother Sun and Sister Moon my heart burned with a fire because everything he had told St. Francis, Jesus had told me in my secret place. I realized this is what I had been looking for all along. When I read the gospel, my heart burned to live it out what I read. I didn't know it was a religious life. Upon arriving, that is when I found out more about the religious order Mother Clare and Father Ezekiel oversaw, and I was to be the first one to take my vows and change my name. All this I did in obedience to my spiritual covering Mother Clare and Father Ezekiel. The Lord made me to understand very quickly how obedience was to Him through them and that I was not to take their instructions as suggestions but as Jesus speaking through them to lead me to His will for my life.
So again, I said yes, it was in this time that I came into the writings of St. Therese little flower who is one of our Patron Mothers and sister of our community and religious order. She wanted to do so much for Jesus. See through the scriptures 0f Paul in 1 Corinthians 13 1-3,13: If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
She realized the greatest among all things is love and that is to be her vocation. I realized that is to be mine and all Heartdwellers. We are called to live and walk in brother love as the church of Philadelphia mentioned in Revelations, Jesus said that is who we are.
Also, within the two years Jesus unraveled the work that He had entrusted me to do. The City of God Sacred Heart Refuge community in Ghana, and that I was called to be a bishop and ordain many priests and a Spiritual Mother to help many souls along the way find their vocations and train up those He sent to the community to do the same.
I share this with you all because each of you has a vocation. All the new subscribers to the channel, welcome. If the Holy Spirit send you to this channel, it’s so that I can help lead you to your vocation. Your first vocation is love, my dear brothers and sister. It matters not if you have the calling of a prophet, apostle, evangelist, teacher, preacher, and encourager, missionary, or you’re a painter, you’re a blogger, you’re called to do YouTube or write books. Whatever it is you’re called to do, the most important thing is to love. Jesus doesn’t care what we do for Him, he cares why we do, what we do. We will be rewarded and judged on how we loved, on our motives. So, this channel is about teaching you how to dwell in God’s heart, have an intimate relationship with Him, understand His heart for others, so they may burn with a desire to love like Jesus.
But your vocation family, is found as result of your intimacy with Jesus. It's a desire that burns in your heart, a burden He has given you to pursue that you just can’t seem to shake. And sometimes He will surprise you. He may not tell you your vocation but will lead you to “lights” along the way who can help you understand God’s will for your life and help you respond and walk in your vocation. Lights like me, Mother Clare, Mother Elisabeth the Desert dwellers channel, Brother Leo who had just started his first day of college on a scholarship, I might add and was called to leave everything and follow Jesus to the mountain and he did. He literally hopped on a train with just his backpack and left the world behind him. And of course, it cost him but now he is walking in his vocation as husband, a father, a priest, a Franciscan brother, a prophet of the Lord and great teacher. And lastly, Mother Therese the House of (IHS) Christ channel. All of us are mothers, brothers who have learned our vocations because another spiritual mother first helped us find our way into our destinies.
If Jesus has led you here to follow the teachings, He most likely is calling you into a religious life or to live in a spirit of a religious life. I will share more about that in the second video because I am a Franciscan sister and our community in Ghana is a Franciscan one as well. And if He leads you here, He may be calling you to renounce the world and follow him to live a life of prayer and holiness. He may be calling many of you into priesthood as well. I was a protestant when called to the priesthood and I just said yes in response to obedience to Jesus. Not because I felt qualified or knew what to do or was even confident about it. But again, I knew it was the Lord’s will, and I responded. And He may be calling many more to be a missionary to touch the lives of people who suffer in different nations and receive their suffering by giving your life in service for them just as he has called us too.
So now it’s your job to respond to the call. Whatever the will of God is for your life, for some of you it will cost you everything, and I mean everything. Are you ready to let go of all and follow him? For me, God was faithful three years later to restore everything back to me. He’s faithful to his words. If you lose your mother, your brother, your sister, land in this life, you receive a hundredfold in this life and even the next as it says in the scripture. And I received many, many brothers and sisters and mothers and fathers in this life because of my yes to Jesus. For others, it may be uncomfortable or not being the timing you have planned because there is still so much you want to do before you follow him. But you must be willing to let go of your plans and follow Him. And for others, it may be downright painful to let go of things, comfortability, clout in the eyes of others, your friendships, relationships or influence to do whatever the Lord is asking. It may mean letting go of your job or your family. Are you ready?
Like Jesus said many are called, few are chosen and even few responds. I am here your spiritual Mother to help you discern your vocation. If anyone of you is truly serious about knowing the will of God for your life and your vocation, and you have counted the cost and are willing to be obedient to whatever the Lord is asking of you, even if it doesn’t make sense. Then you’re ready to be led into your vocations. If any of you would like prayer to respond or to know your vocation and are ready and want me to help you discern your vocation, I am ready to help you as well. Email me at maryelisha@zohomail.com and let’s begin the conversation and discernment that could change the rest of your life for the better.
That’s the end of the message.
I hope this message and small teaching helped. God bless you family until the next message, and I look forward in getting many responses from you, God’s willing. I will follow up with two messages from Jesus to Mother Clare expounding a bit more on being called by Him, and also for the young ones who will be tested in either living for their parents or living for Jesus.
