Prayer Day 40 Her 40th son: Prayer Against A Spirit Of Avarice

Father Lord, we know that 'avarice' refers to an insatiable desire to gain and hoard wealth. It’s similar to greed but goes even further, encompassing such things as selfishness, entitlement, materialism, consumerism, and hoarding. We step into avarice when we crave more than what God has allotted us. We believe the enemy's lies to just take a little more of this, just get a little more of that. Oh, you really need it; it’s a necessity when Jesus has called us to be content.

Oh Lord, help us, forgive us for this sin that can be subtle, affecting all people from the rich to the poor. We live in a world that declares “money is power”, so we have an eroding generation chasing after earthly acquisition for status and respect, eroding families where parents sacrifice their family and relationships with their children for the altar of avarice, where he enslaves many who are poor with the strong desire to be rich because that will bring happiness, eroding our communities. Where a young man or woman will rob someone and even kill for the latest pair of shoes or the latest iPhone. Eroding our nations, causing genocide and wars just to strip the land of its resources and minerals and the people of the land of their dignity and respect, all while worshipping and serving this demon Avarice.

Father, we confess in our personal lives we have also succumbed to this deadly sin and spirit by withholding what you tell us to give away, not willing to let go of the nicer things, even the comfortable life, just to have more of you and more of heaven. We make excuses for the purchases that we make and many times are not willing to be as generous as we should in fear that we won’t have enough. Lord, forgive us for entertaining and giving room in our lives to this son of Jezebel.

As Ahab and Jezebel were not content with the kingdom you gave them, they coveted Naboth's vineyard and, because of it, killed him for it. Lord, how often with our own eyes have we coveted someone else’s gifts, someone else’s spouse, someone else’s looks, someone else’s intelligence, influence, office or even their favour? How many times have we murdered our brethren with slander or gossip, all from the motive of jealousy? For your word says whoever hates his brother is a murderer. We have killed, Lord forgive, what another has and even professed with our mouths, “I would die for the likes of so-and-so.”

We now take authority over this 40th son of Jezebel, and we renounce you, your works and your powers over our lives. We cast you OUT of our lives, OUT of our marriages, OUT of our families, OUT of our communities and OUT of our nations and bind you to remote pits of hell in the mighty name of Jesus!

The word says the love of money is the root of all evil. 1 Timothy 6:10, so we decree that this generation, nations and our families would rather love the Lord our God with all our heart, all our mind and all our strength. The words say, in Luke 12:15, to be on guard against covetousness, for our life does not consist in the abundance of things. So we decree that this generation, the nations and families, would be content with righteous gain.

We decree over the poor that your word says you have made the poor of this world rich in faith and inherit the kingdom. James 2:5. May we renounce this demon of activity and all its enticements and offers to live for the things above and personally pursue true power and teach our children, our families, this generation and nations the true currency of Heaven, which is charity and love.

Displaying the treasures of Your work, Jesus, You invite us all to follow You, to sell our goods, to give to the poor, and to completely submit ourselves to You. So Lord, help us to not seek any earthly possessions and be free of all avaricious aspirations. Jesus, edify our weak human nature to resist unnecessary commodities. May we subdue all greedy tendencies in Jesus' name!
