Hey family. So the Lord wanted me to share the insight that my confessor shared with me from the book I believe In Miracles by Pastor Elvis Agyemang. It really brought things in perspective as I've been going through the storm. I think many of us have been. It was very encouraging and I believe it will encourage each of you as well. I'll be sharing a few chapters from the book. This chapter is called The Devil Is More Worried and this is on the backbone of the message You're in the trenches. Jesus said to share this passage that my confessor gave me after my confession of being a hot mess and struggling in faith. So the chapter begins:
But as they sailed He fell asleep. There came down a storm of wind on the lake and they were filled with water and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him and woke him saying, "Master, master, we perish." They near rose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water and they ceased. And there was a calm. And He said unto them, "Where is your faith?" And they being afraid, saying to one another, "What manner of man is this? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him." Luke 8:23-25.
If you didn't read the scriptures thrice, go back and read it again. This is the disciples versus Jesus reaction to a challenge in a moment. The disciples saw a storm that has come to cause everyone to perish. Jesus saw a misbehaving spirit who must be put to order. The disciples were trying to fix the boat. The storm was destroying.
And wow, guys, I was like, "Huh, I never thought of it like that.”
They called invasion; the storm a perishing mission. They saw their destruction. They never saw any possibility that they could rather destroy what was trying to harass them. The disciples were busy declaring their own destruction. We are perishing. That they didn't even see the greatest miracle that was taking place. The same way we are so quick to call ourselves victims. This was the miracle happening. But as they settled, he fell asleep. And there came down a storm of wind on the lake, and were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. Luke 8:23.
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. Mark 4:37.
Mark's version gives a clear picture of the miracle I want to show you in the same story that both books recorded. The miracle is that the ship was full of water, yet it was not sinking. The disciples were afraid that they were going to lose their boat and their lives. But Satan was more worried that what He does to many boats to destroy lives was not working with this boat. The sinking and breaking point of every boat is when it's filled with water to its capacity. Even if it's a Titanic, it will sink. Satan was too worried that this boat would not succumb to the storm. Unfortunately, the sailors being the disciples couldn't discern their miracle. They were just crying loud at the intimidation of the storm that they couldn't even for a moment realize that their boat was resisting the fierceness of this attack.
“Amen. Hmm. I don't know about you guys, it's ministering to me.”
Many of us can't even see how worried Satan is about our lives. Can't you see he's not even having it easy with you, like he had it with other destinies in the family? Many of us can't see that for years. Though the storm keeps coming at the marriage, the boat is not sinking. There is always a way of escape, divorce. Can't you see that though the diagnosis is there, the disease is not gone. Yet you keep attending the funerals of healthy people and you are still alive. It happens that your boat is flooded with water yet it's not sinking. There's no job yet the family eats and your children are graduating from school. They didn't drop out. You don't even know how you are managing to keep up with their fees. All you know is that it has been two years of joblessness. Yet nothing broken, nothing missing. The storm that sank other boats couldn't sink yours. This is why Satan is more worried than you, beloved.
He still cannot get over the mystery about your life. How that after all your clubbing, immorality, drinking, and smoking, you still managed to repent and become one who God loves. Now the question is, can you see the miracle in the midst of the storm? If you can't see it, then fear will be inevitable.
And He said unto them, where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to one another, what manner of man is this? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey him. Luke 8:25.
Jesus didn't say, "Have faith." They already had faith. It had just escaped them. Their faith absconded. The more they looked at the storm, the further their faith fled from them. Their fear quickly replaced their faith. The Bible said, "And they being afraid wondered." When Jesus saw the display of their fear, He asked them about where their faith was. Everyone has both fear and faith. They show up in response to what you focus on. If you focus on what is happening externally and what Satan is trying to do, fear will be inevitable. Satan was out there and Jesus was in there. At a point they knew who to wake up. They got inside the boat to call Jesus who was sleeping. They woke Him up with the description that was so ungodly. We are perishing. For your information, Jesus can't perish. He rather delivers those who are perishing. We must always commune deep within ourselves when we're faced with a challenge.
Jesus sleeping was a sign of peace in the midst of the storm. When the hour becomes messy, go inward to the one who is always at peace. Jesus showed the disciples how to handle such cases. He spoke and rebuked the wind and it obeyed Him. He didn't repeat the disciples perishing cry. He rebuked the wind. Don't try to fix your boat like the disciples. Speak to the destroyer like Jesus. Fear will let you try to put together what Satan is breaking. Let me say that again. Fear will let you try to put together what Satan is breaking. And again, fear will let you try to put together what Satan is breaking. Huh? Faith will move you to break Satan like you broke your boat. Look inside and summon faith. The faith to withstand the threats of hell is right inside of you. When you allow fear, you will condemn yourself and your family and say, "We are perishing." This is the language Satan wants. He wants you to keep affirming and confessing what he's doing to you. When Jesus came up, he showed us the way of faith. He rather condemned Satan.
He rebuked the wind and suddenly there was a solution. Seeing all sorts of nasty and abominal things about yourself, I'm adding of your situation when fetch your miracle or deliverance. No, it rather strengthens the arm of your taskmaster. You must never speak your destruction and faith even when you're hurting. Learn to rebuke it in the name of Jesus. Your faith has not gone far. Catch it back and let the action begin. In the days of David, God could have given him the best of life. He would be the favorite of his father, probably be highly protected from anything harmful. But that didn't happen. God left him to go through the cold hands of the enemy. His own father forgot him. He was in the thick of the forest with the sheep where he had to face bears and lions. This is the miracle. With all these harsh conditions, he still didn't miss the throne. He became the king of Israel. There was a miracle in the crooked journey. He refused to see his father to be cruel to have left him all alone with wild beast. He was not bitter. He saw his victory over the lion and bear as a miracle and a faith booster to face Goliath.
1st Samuel 17: 32, 34-36. David said to Saul, "Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine. Your servant will go and fight him." Saul replied, "You're not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him. You're only a young man. He's been a warrior from his youth. But David said to Saul, "Your servant has been keeping his father's sheep. When a lion or bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it. I struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it, and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them because he has defied the armies of the living God."
He didn't go about being bitter. He was left with the lions and bears to be killed. The pains of rejection were staring at him, yet he refused to see it as such. He rather saw the help of God in it. That was when the faith rose up in him. And not even Goliath could intimidate him. It was the same with Joseph. After the painful rejection of his brothers, he still keeps on believing God. It was dreams that led him to slavery in Egypt. But it's also the interpretation of dreams that led him to the throne. He didn't give up on what God put in him, even though it led him into much trouble. When God made him ruler in Egypt, he refused to repay his brothers because he judged everything that happened to him right before the sight of God. He believed he was sent to deliver his people in the days of famine. He was not bitter because he saw God's help all along. He didn't turn a blind eye to a ship that was now sinking. Along the way, he met Potiphar's wife and her lies. Yet, he didn't sink. He was in prison, yet he didn't sink. He was sold, yet he didn't sink. The difference between us and some Bible heroes is that they saw the miracle in the storm, but were so sensual that we can't discern the miracle in the storm.
We're like the disciples. If it were in the days of the three Hebrew boys, we'd be so worried about the fact that we were captured in the first place, when God could have prevented our arrest that we would not had even seen the extravagant miracle of the fourth man quenching the fierceness of the fire. Would be the same with Daniel. We will cry to God that an arrest will tarnish our superman/woman image we have built for ourselves. That so long as we serve God, we're untouchable. And your rest will make us worried that we would even see the magnitude of the miracle of sleeping in a hungry lion's den for a whole night and still coming out in one piece. Can you see the first miracle of God rendering Satan's attack fruitless in your life even before stopping him from any further attacks? You see, the devil is more worried.
