Chapter 11
What is an Altar?
All the people in the Bible who did mighty things of God understood the operation of altars. If you want to live vicariously, you also need to know what they are and how they work. The following are ten facts about altars.
An altar is a platform dedicated to act as a doorway between the spiritual and physical realms.
It is a collection of acts that permit the spiritual world to operate in the physical realm.
Every spiritual performance manifesting in the physical, comes by means of an altar.
Altars are spiritual command posts directing the affairs of men.
An altar is also a stronghold and a venue of spiritual communion.
An altar is a platform of covenants.
An altar gives authority to the spirit for which it was built.
If your problem is a spiritual one, know there is an altar behind it.
Your battle is not with the demons but with the altar which is their platform
Altars are maintained by priests but commanded by a spiritual force.
You can raise and maintain an effective altar.
Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7 The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring, I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him. Gen 12:6-7 (NIV 1984)
18 So Abram went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he pitched his tents. There he built an altar to the Lord. Gen 13:18(NIV 1984)
Abraham understood the impact of altars. Whenever God visited him, he raised an altar knowing that it [would] work as a point of contact with his God. Our fathers also knew the power of altars and they raised evil altars to connect with spiritual powers. Such altars brought bondage and captivity to our families.
Before Gideon accomplished this mission of delivering his father’s house and the entire nation of Israel, God told him to go back to his father’s house and destroy the altars of Baal that his father had built.
So, for Gidon’s case, the demons of Baal had authority over the whole family. With Baal controlling the family, Gideon could not win the Midianites, who were devil worshippers.
25 That same night the Lord said to him, “Take the second bull from your father’s herd, the one seven years old. Tear down your father’s altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it. 26 Then build a proper kind of altar to the Lord your God on the top of this height. Using the wood of the Asherah pole that you cut down, offer the second] bull as a burnt offering.” Judges 6:25-26 (NIV 1984)
You cannot overcome the spirits fighting you while evil altars are controlling your father’s house. The spirits that are active in your father’s house will bind your feet and your hands so that you cannot fight the sorcerers and witches trying to destroy your marriage, business, ministry, etc. In fact, they are using these altars to fight you because these altars have spiritual authority over your life. Evil altars are collaborating with altars in your father’s house. That is why your battles and problems have defied ordinary prayers. Denouncing and destroying household altars is a prerequisite to your victory and breakthrough in life.
An aside…
Huh, I hope you guys are really listening to this. So if you’re finding yourself fighting the same battles—you know, interceding, fasting, and praying, then maybe you’re not praying effectively. What you need to focus on are the altars behind whatever is causing the issue in your marriage, issue in your finances, issue in your health, issue in your children. There’s an evil altar and that means there is a priest, like the Lord said, or Pastor James said. There is a priest—evil priest, a witch—somebody who is feeding that altar, and giving that altar authority to go ahead and enact these curses and these assignments in your life
Resuming…
Household altars may have been a shrine in the home, or a certain place chosen and dedicated to host the family altar. It may be a room or part of the house set apart for household idol worship.
5 Now this man Micah had a shrine, and he made an ephod and some idols and installed one of his sons as his priest. 6 In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit. Judges 17:5-6 (NIV 1984)
Micah had an idol and an altar in his shrine, and he installed his son as a priest. For some people, their struggle is because evil dedication was done on them as priests and priestesses to their father’s household altar.
Evil priests demand that people seeking their service must offer one of their children as a priest or host of the ruling spirit. Were you a priest or priestess on an evil altar? Do you come from a family that has household idols? Know that you are dealing with altars that have a claim on your father’s household. It is for your good that you learn how to destroy evil altars.
Destroying evil altars
With the above understanding about altars, I want now to share with you how to nullify their effects on your life and family. There are three effective ways to do this.
Break the horns
Contend with the sacrifice
Scatter the priesthood
All three areas of attack will produce results but combining all three together will destroy the altar.
Break the Horns
While destroying altars, we must know that the strength of every altar is in the horns of the altar. Every altar has horns. Listen to God instructing Moses to build an altar.
“Build an altar of acacia wood, three cubits high; it is to be square, five cubits long and five cubits wide. 2 Make a horn at each of the four corners, so that the horns and the altar are of one piece, and overlay the altar with bronze. Exo 27:1-2 (NIV 1984)
Horns are spiritual beings or powers that control and work on every altar.
6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Rev. 5:6 (NIV 1984)
The dragon stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on its horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. Rev 13:1 (NIV 1984)
8 “While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a human being and a mouth that spoke boastfully.
Dan 7:8 (NIV 1984)
Many believers today are taught to engage in spiritual warfare to secure deliverance. They have been given mighty weapons from the arsenal of heaven and have become skilled in using them, but they still have little fruit. Reason? So many are ignorant of how the altar works and the power of the horns. They lack the real target in warfare. They need to break the horns of the altars so that those horns will no longer have the power to fight.
Horns signify spiritual strength
If we are to destroy altars of every form, we must learn how to break their horns. This is done by summoning divine craftsmen to destroy them. Horns are not broken by the power and words of the sons of men. Divine craftsmen destroy and throw down evil horns. God revealed this mystery to His servant Zechariah. For our sake, it is recorded in Zech 1:18-21 NIV1984
18Then I looked up—and there before me were four horns. 19 I asked the angel who was speaking to me, “What are these?” He answered me, “These are the horns that scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.” 20 Then the LORD showed me four craftsmen. 21 I asked, “What are these coming to do?” He answered, “These are the horns that scattered Judah so that no one could raise their head, but the craftsmen have come to terrify them and throw down these horns of the nations who lifted up their horns against the land of Judah to scatter its people.”
Pray fervently that God sends His craftsmen into your father’s house to terrify and throw down the horns that have scattered your family clan.
Prayer format for dealing with horns:
Father God Almighty, You who reign forever, You are the Lord of Hosts and You are the Lord my Banner.
I petition You, Father, to send your craftsmen to thrown down and crush all the horns of evil altars raised against my family and my ministry.
Lord, let your craftsmen destroy completely all the horns that scatter my family so that their altars will not stand today and forever.
Divine craftsmen go through the land throwing down and destroying evil altars by crushing their horns.
Smite with thunder every altar positioned to fight against Your will, O Lord.
Nullify every covenant by which such altars were established, in the name of Jesus Christ, Son of the living God
Contend with the Sacrifice on the Altar
It is also very important to pray to God Almighty to disqualify the sacrifices offered on evil altars. Always ask God to reject all the petitions of evil priests. Remember, sometimes the devil will petition God for your testing and trial. Two examples of such petitions are found in Job 1:11-12where Satan petitioned God to test Job, and in Lk 22:32, where he petitioned God to attack Peter.
Here are five facts about sacrifices on an altar:
Sacrifices release spiritual power.
The power of an altar is in the constancy of the sacrifice.
All Sacrifices call for a spiritual response.
A sacrifice is the fuel that runs an altar.
Denying an altar’s sacrifice condemns & ruins it.
The sacrifice to be presented on an altar is determined by the spirit of the altar. Altars raised to God must be serviced with worthy sacrifices or He will reject them. Remember Cain and Able’s sacrifices. There are several other cases throughout the Scriptures where God rejected the sacrifices presented to Him. He was very clear to Moses about the exact sacrifices He wanted on His altar. The same is true in the opposing kingdom. The spirits also demand a worthy sacrifice.
There were many times when our fathers sought the spirits of the land for their blessings during planting or hunting season and did not get the desired response. When rejected, they would go deeper into prayer, chanting while offering greater and greater sacrifices. The prophets/priests of Baal offered sacrifices on Mount Carmel. They cried for 6 hours, even cutting themselves (as was their custom) until blood flowed from their bodies crying for a spiritual response.
Note how Elijah offered the sacrifice. It was the timing of the evening sacrifice. It was on an altar as instructed by God to Moses. It was the acceptable animal for a burnt offering. His sacrifice produced a spiritual response because it was according to the instructions of the Lord of that altar.
Priests manage the altar and spirits command it. Unworthy sacrifices will desert the altar if it has no appeasing sacrifices. When this happens, the altar goes into disrepair and is considered dormant and harmless. The spirit is also overrun by other altars in the area that are effectively serviced.
Our fathers may have maintained sacrifices to evil spirits for appeasement and spiritual fornication. These sacrifices authorize evil spirits to control and command the affairs of the family. Where evil spirits control, evil reigns.
The good news is that you can plead the sacrifice of the blood of Jesus to silence all the evil sacrifices in your father’s house. The sacrifice of the blood of Jesus at Calvary is effective to eternally nullifying all the claims of evil sacrifice.
Prayer for dealing with evil sacrifices
Lord Jesus Christ, I embrace the sacrifice you made for me and my family at Calvary.
I acknowledge that there can be no greater or more potent sacrifice than the blood of Christ.
Reject those that petition you, O Lord, so that I may be less than you desire of me, remember Your sacrifice.
I raise the blood of Jesus Christ against any sacrifice made against me at evil altars.
Lord consider my sacrifice now and nullify their sacrifice.
May the blood of Jesus Christ answer for me every time my name is mentioned at the evil altars in the name of the Mighty Lord Jesus Christ.
Scatter the Evil Priesthood
Dealing with the priesthood is as important as dealing with the horns and sacrifices. Where there is a generation of evil priesthood in your father’s household, it must be scattered and retrenched in order to destroy those altars for your deliverance.
If an evil priesthood has been claiming you, declare to it that you are a holy priesthood, a chosen nation, and a people belonging to God. Retrenching means sending evil priests off their work dead or alive according to the will of God. To destroy Baal priests and prophets so that the land could be cleansed. Cleanse your father’s house for deliverance by asking God to wipe away every form of evil priesthood in your father’s house.
Say this prayer:
Father in heaven, in the name of Your son Jesus Christ, my high priest in the order of Melchizedek, who became a guarantee of a better covenant and introduced better hope for me. I declare Father that I am a holy priesthood, sanctified by the Blood of Jesus Christ.
Your Word has promised me that no weapons formed against me shall prosper and every tongue which rises against me in judgment, I shall condemn.
I, therefore, draw near to your throne of mercy petitioning you to retrench any form of evil priesthood in my father’s house claiming my name, marriage, and ministry through their altars which are raised to rebellious spirits that You condemned long ago.
Evict them from their office of priesthood and cancel all their decrees and petitions.
Blind and paralyze every tool and skill they use and engage in their duty.
In the authority you have given me, I rise to condemn every claim from evil priests in my life. I declare that none of them will work in my life in Jesus’ name.
I declare that no operation of evil priesthood will work in my generation to come in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
Evil petitions
The major work of evil priests at their altars is to make petitions on their sacrifices. When they offer a worthy sacrifice, they are then given authority to stand and make petitions and declarations that have power to cause havoc if not countered effectively. This is the power the priests can wield. Please do not be fooled into thinking their works are harmless nonsense.
Jesus asked us to pray “…lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.” He, the great master, knew what His followers would face on a daily basis and gave us significant nuggets to escape the traps of the wicked one. He will fight to help you overcome but His first option is to lead you on a path that avoids temptation and to deliver His people from the works of the devil.
Even when you fall into these targeted temptations, the Master is there to help you overcome but the battle is always at a price. It will always cost you.
Although the Lord will help you overcome them, the pain would be so much. Let the Blood of Jesus disqualify every sacrifice and petition they offer.
Remember, one day Satan asked to sift Peter like wheat, but the Lord prayed for him.
Lk 22:31-32 NKJV
31 And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
Pray the same prayer today that the Lord will not allow the devil to sift you like wheat.
Pray that all the sacrifices of satan be rejected and disqualified.
Pray that any evil petition against you shall not be granted.
Let there be a change of priesthood
Our ancestors offered themselves as priests to the evil one. We can undo this by offering ourselves to God as holy and royal priests ordained through the blood of Jesus.
Listen to the desire of God’s heart…Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people, for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation… Exo 19:5-6 NKJV
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim (declare) the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Pet 2:9 NKJV
The Lord Jesus Christ understood this desire. Listen to how heaven celebrates Him and the reason for this celebration. 9And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, 10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.”Rev 5:9-10 NKJV
Make these declarations:
I am a royal priesthood not of my choosing.
God chose me to stand before Him as a royal priest.
My sacrifices will be according to God’s instructions and will be acceptable before Him.
My altar will never lack a worthy sacrifice.
The fire on my altar will burn continuously. It will never burn out.
Here is another incredible mystery revealed. ‘For when there is a change of the priesthood there must be a change in the law as well.’ Heb 7:12 (NIV 1984). As you engage to disqualify the evil priesthood unto The Lord Jesus Christ, He said even the laws governing your family will automatically change.
The law of evil that reigned in our father’s houses is disqualified by the law of holiness and grace which ushers in the blessing. As the family was once compelled to acknowledge and submit to the ways and demands of demons, now it will be compelled to acknowledge and submit to the ways of righteousness.
When we stand in holy intercession and confession we cause a change of priesthood. Every family needs to engage in intercession and confession continually. Family members should do this in total sanctification. Sanctification qualifies us to stand as priests of the Most High God.
Spiritual sacrifices in the New Testament
Higher and greater sacrifices nullify lower sacrifices. The principle is that holy sacrifices nullify evil sacrifices. We can nullify evil sacrifices in our father’s house by continuously offering sacrifices to God.
In the Old Testament, the sacrifices were physical things like animals, crops, and other possessions of man. But all these sacrifices were not able to perfect him who offered service, as pertaining to the conscious. Through our Lord and Master Jesus Christ, God ordained deeper sacrifices in the New Testament.
The sacrifice of our bodies
I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (Rom 12:1 RSV)
We can do this through fasting and other ways of humbling the body to worship God. The sacrifice of fasting strengthens your personal altar because it also deals with deep secrets of the heart. Fasting totally disarms ruling spirits which control our lives through transferred personalities from our parents.
Offering our bodies in fasting pleases God Almighty to intervene in the affairs of our households.
The sacrifice of praise
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. (Heb 13:15)
God abides in the praises of His people. Where God abides, His Spirit reigns, and where His Spirit reigns there is liberty. Coming together as a family consistently to offer praises to God is a sacrifice which wipes away all the effects of evil sacrifice. Introduce praise into your household and see the deliverance the Lord will bring into your inheritance.
The sacrifice of charity
He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done. (Prov 19:17 NIV 1984)
Reaching out to help the needy is a sacrificial act which calls for God’s mercy on a family. Altars raised to influence and control communities must give back to the poor of the community.
Remember our fathers, while appeasing evil spirits at their altars, invited neighbors for a feast. This was an act of dedicating neighbors and friends to expand the influence of such powers. Giving back to the needy nullifies this act of communal dedication. The deliverance of your father’s house has to involve the deliverance of the community.
That ends Day 11, Chapter 11 of the “Freedom from Bondages of My Father’s House” book, by Pastor James Kawalya.
I think this is my favorite chapter because I didn’t know these things about horns and altars—and really seriously praying against these things. I don’t know about you but if there is an area in your life or your family’s life that you continue to struggle with—you have fasted and prayed, you went to counseling and deliverance sessions, etc. but nothing has changed, then maybe it’s time you deal with the horns, evil altars and evil priests in your father’s house.
I hope this is blessing you as much as it has blessed me. Only two more days left. God bless you, family, until the next message.
