The Role of SPIRITUAL FATHERS

I have to admit that I went through a lot of problems even though I was very prayerful, dedicated, and committed to the Lord. This is because I did not understand the issue of submitting to spiritual authority for my deliverance

The lack of knowledge concerning the role of a spiritual father is among the reasons why many people have not received deliverance from issues of their father’s house. What we are dealing with in our father’s house was instituted by an authority which can only be undone by another authority. Your father was an authority so whatever he did, it was in his authority as the father. So whenever you try to undo it, the spiritual realm will always ask you, “In whose name, whose authority?”

Some people’s troubles come in form of curses because they have violated authority, especially dishonoring and disobeying orders and decrees given by the father as an authority. I have seen children suffering because they sold family land, whereas the father, while still living, said no child should ever sell the land.

Case: Kanyike

After the death of his father, Kanyike’s grandfather commanded Kanyike’s father, as the heir to allow his stepmother to live in the house and to take care of her. But after the death of the old man, Kanyike’s father sold the land and chased away the stepmother. One month later he died in a car accident in the very car he had bought with the money he got from the sale of the family land.

Kanyike and his siblings went through a lot of problems: his only brother committed suicide. Kanyike tried twice to commit suicide, his wife eloped with his best friend and his only daughter became blind without explanation. Thank God, Kanyike had a spiritual father who led him into repentance and the curse was broken and problems ceased.

If the father misused his authority and died before rectifying his mistake, or if he is not willing to denounce and renounce what he instituted, the only solution for deliverance lies in the hands of a spiritual father. He can use his spiritual authority to undo what was done in the spirit. But this will work only if you do not have any issues to resolve with your natural father. If there was dishonesty, disobedience, or dishonoring, one must repent to the natural father if he is still living. Then the spiritual father can take authority and deliver you.

Many people, after rebelling against their natural fathers, have also gone ahead and rebelled against their spiritual fathers. Such people will have a lot of trouble unless they repent and submit to authority, otherwise there is no way for their breakthrough. Some have even started ministries and churches in rebellion against spiritual authorities and they have ended up struggling. It was when I realized the importance of a spiritual father that I submitted, and my ministry began to take root.

It is our duty to submit, support, and pray for our spiritual fathers because they hold a lot concerning our destiny in life. When your spiritual father errs, know for certain that this will affect you tremendously because whatever flows in him, is imparted into your life as he is an authority over your life. Therefore upholding our spiritual fathers in prayer is of great importance.

A spiritual father is one who has accepted the responsibility over one life in the area of spiritual matters. He is in charge of one spiritual welfare, spiritual development, and spiritual maturity. He will mature, protect, and provide spiritual cover. We are accountable to them spiritually and they are accountable to God. They monitor our progress spiritual growth and provide endorsement for spiritual tasks and responsibilities.

Spiritual fathers impart what is in their lives to their children for the building of the Kingdom of God. The lack of such is a cause for concern because your spiritual life would be greatly challenged without a wise mentor and counselor.

The Role of Spiritual Fathers

There are three specific roles of spiritual fathers.

1. A spiritual father must dedicate you to God as a natural father would have dedicated you to evil. In order to break evil dedications from your father’s house our spiritual fathers must take the initiative of taking us before God and dedicating us. Do not try to deal with dedications over your life because you’re not an authority over your life. If you do the consequences are severe.

2. A spiritual father must give you a name, or sanctify the name given to you by your natural father. Names have very spiritual attachments and authority over the bearers. In many cultures to prove that the child belongs to the tribe or clan, the child must be given a name that attaches the child to the family. So to break evil attachments that come by names, the spiritual father must take authority to denounce such names and give sanctified names to his children.

3. A spiritual father must always speak life. Our natural fathers, through negligence and ignorance, spoke evil and curses into our lives. The spiritual father must always keep speaking into our lives that which is imparting a blessing by an authority.

Were you dedicated by your spiritual father? Did he give you a name or sanctify the old name? Does he speak occasionally in your life? If yes, I assure you, you are free from bondages of your father’s house. And if not, that is the reason you prayed, gave, and fasted but nothing is working. You had better take action.

Choosing a Spiritual Father

In most cases, God will lead you to someone whom He wants to be your spiritual father. It is always a child that would know first that this one should be their spiritual father. Unless in rare cases where your spirit agrees, do not let anyone impose himself as your spiritual father.

When you submit to this man of God you’re giving him spiritual responsibility over your life. He even has the platform to speak authoritatively over [you]. There is a problem today where we see Saints seeking to change spiritual fathers whenever they come across someone with great anointing. Once you have submitted to one, the same rules apply to honoring your parents. The only way to change is when he releases you with his blessing to submit to another.

I have heard many profess that Bishop TV personally is their father. Or pastor X who pastors a 15,000-member congregation is their father. These also cannot work effectively because the spiritual father needs to have a personal relationship with their children the way a natural father would. If this is you, please go and seek the Lord to be led to the person He has ordained to provide a covering for you.

You must ask to become one’s spiritual child. The person must agree to take on the role as your spiritual father and you must submit to his spiritual authority and covering for you. Then you will need to let him know everything about your past, present situation, and future aspirations so that he can know where to begin helping and nurturing you.

My spiritual father must be mature in age and spirit, with a good testimony and sound doctrine. He must meet all the requirements of a deacon, Bishop, or elder.

So what is the Lord to you in the last chapter?

As a Heartdweller we have the best spiritual covering, spiritual father in Father Ezekiel who really has laid down his life in obedient submission to the Lord to give life to all of his spiritual children. But as Pastor James mentioned, it is important that you have a relationship with your spiritual father or spiritual authority.

Many of you may not be able to have a close relationship with Father Ezekiel. Then I would encourage you as well to continue to submit under the teachings that Jesus gives us because He leads us by the Holy Spirit. Or you may have a spiritual authority in your life—someone who speaks into your life—honor them. And if you have issues with your father—your physical father, the Lord is making it clear, through the teachings of Pastor James Kawalya, that it’s important that we all rectify our issues with our father. Really come to a place of repentance and forgiveness, and honoring them. Even if they weren’t that great of a father, or even if they didn’t have the best wishes, we must honor them because of their authority and their role in our lives. And that’s where freedom will begin.

I do want to add, before I became a Heartdweller, the Holy Spirit led me to watch John Paul Jackson. He was an evangelist, a minister, a prophet to the nations and he actually lived in my area. I would watch his teachings and derive so much understanding concerning dreams and prophetic interpretations. For whatever reason, I see now, that the Lord knew that I needed a spiritual authority in my life and covering. More importantly, I needed a father’s blessing. I didn’t know the power behind that.

I remember one of his shows, he spoke about the power of the father’s blessing. Many of us didn’t have our fathers bless us. But it’s so necessary in our walk and in this life, to get this father’s blessing. I had an amazing father, honestly, growing up as a child. He was wonderful, so attentive, so involved. Unfortunately, after he and my mother separated, he was no longer emotionally available as I desired. And, not really available in my spiritual walk either.

So, coming to the Lord and walking with Jesus, I realized I had father wounds. I remember the Holy Spirit led me to the video. I watched it and I balled my eyes out. He just spoke—I could feel the authority, the heaviness, the weightiness of his word. Immediately I felt my heart—I was like, this is my father. I felt it was like the Father speaking through John Paul Jackson—speaking the Father’s blessing. I felt like something broke—something was imparted, and something changed for me. If I can find the clip, I will add it at the end of this video. I feel that everyone should get a father’s blessing to stand in the gap for your father, in case your father didn’t give you a blessing. Or, you know, maybe I’ll ask Father Ezekiel if he is able to record a father’s blessing and then we’ll have him share it on the channel so those who don’t have a spiritual covering or authority or never received a father’s blessing can receive it from him.

But I just wanted to share that with you guys because I felt it was definitely impactful and it really confirms what Pastor James Kawalya says about spiritual fathers.

The Father’s Blessing by John Paul Jackson

Some of you did not have great father figures. Some of you had fathers who passed away before they could give you a blessing. Others of you, for one reason or another, are unable to receive a blessing from your father. To you, I want to offer the blessings of the Heavenly Father through myself, an earthly father. This type of blessing is seen in Numbers 6, as God blessed the children of Israel under the pronouncement of Moses. It goes on to say that upon blessing the people, God will place His name and bless those who heard it. That means you…

Therefore, may the Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.

And from me, from my heart as a father, and a grandfather, I’d like to bless you in this way;

May you reach the purpose for which you were created. May you have courage above your peers, and may you have more passion for the things of God than others think is necessary. May you dream more than others think is practical. May you expect more than others think is possible. May you choose wisely without earthly bias. You have people to influence that you have not yet met; you have lives to change that are waiting for your arrival. You are strategically placed wherever God takes you by His grand design just so you can become everything He made you to be.

That place is the place you can grow best, that place is a place where you can be most fruitful, the place where the future is changed because of your presence. May you see vistas that others don’t even know exist. May you see God in every petal of every flower and every blade of grass for each of them is designed by His hand. May you bless your children and may they become giants in the faith under the Mighty hand of God. You won’t fail. You were made by God to be here for such a time as this.
